Story:

Backgammon grew up in a tall, strong magic tower in the poor town of Blackfall. His parents were retired adventurers and two of the strongest magic masters throughout recent history. All his life he idolized them. His biggest dream was to become an extremely powerful sorcerer like them. He was trained by his father to bond with nature and master his unique element of haze, and his mother taught him how to master the many uses of magic in battle and in ordinary life.

One day, however, at the age of 11, Backgammon's entire life began to turn for the worst. His mother fell gravely ill from an unknown illness. His father ventured to a neighboring town to find help from a doctor, but the family was unable to pay for the proper treatment. Over time, his mother grew sicker and sicker, until she passed away. 

​

Three years later, his father also died in an accident away from home. Backgammon was beyond devastated. He could not understand how the most powerful people he had ever known could die just like that. What was even worse, residents of his village began to leave to find a better home. 

​

One day, when the village only had about a dozen residents, Backgammon left for Shadowrock Canyon to train. It was during that time that he found and adopted a baby obsidian eagle left to die after falling from its nest. He named the chick Screechar. When Backgammon returned, he found that bandits from another country attacked his village. They slaughtered the villagers and were now tearing down his parent's precious tower. Enraged beyond belief, Backgammon viciously attacked the bandits with powers he never knew he possessed, killing them all.

Backgammon realized he was left with nothing. No family, no friends, and a nearly destroyed home. Days passed and he contemplated ending his life, but the chick he rescued seemed to inspire him to live. Not only that. It appeared black birds from all across the land were arriving to give him hope. Crows, Ravens, magpies, and other birds with pitch black feathers arrived to comfort him. Backgammon realized the spirits of his parents were drawing the birds to him. They loved black birds with a passion and felt a kinship with them.

Over time, Backgammon's heart began to heal. He dedicated more time to strengthening his powers and learning to befriend the black birds. Eventually, he became quite well known among Rownland and the northern lands of Eurica. Known for his tremendous magical talents and his lingering sadness over his lost loved ones, he became known as, The Lost Sorcerer.

Powers and Abilities:

Backgammon's melee skills are surprisingly impressive for a magic wielder. He is strong enough to overpower blade users that are slightly heavier than him in weapon clashes. His speed is also well above average, and he can run quite fast. His magic staff has blades that can slice through thick wooden planks. 

​

His element is very rare as it is a fusion of two uncommon elements. His mother was a naturman and his father was a zephyrman. The combination of poison and wind gifted him the element of haze. A shadowy, black, toxic mist that blisters, stings, poisons, and suffocates foes. He can manipulate the element to an extraordinary degree. Blades, bombs, multi-bursts, shockwaves, and surrounding mist are all possible for him. His signature elemental attack is summoning birds of haze to assault multiple foes. 

​

Magic is by far Backgammon's greatest power. He can light up areas and make objects levitate with ease. More complex spells he knows are plant growth, object enchantment, vision sharing, illusion casting, wraith summoning, and object teleportation. He has yet to master portal summoning. The most difficult skill in magic. Backgammon's proudest magical power is the ability to command black birds to do his bidding. He can have crows, ravens, magpies, and all other black feathered birds spy on foes and friends, collect items for him, attack weak creatures, and warn him of danger.

Personality

Backgammon is often seen with a confident grin in the face of both friends and enemies. He likes to show bravado to impress those around him. He is not overconfident and knows when to be serious. 

​

He has quite a mischievous aura to him and enjoys taunting enemies with his sinister demeanor. 

​

His intelligence is well above average, and he is well versed in the knowledge of science, magic, history, and even math. 

​

Though his past would suggest an inner coldness, Backgammon actually has a deep desire for companionship and is more than willing to make friends with those who visit his home for games instead of battle. This is how he befriended Chess and his friends.

​

Despite his somewhat bright demeanor, deep down Backgammon has a persisting sadness for his lost loved ones. It is this sadness where he gets his star name 'The Lost Sorcerer' from.
